Q: What affects the connective tissue / fascia?

Prolonged physical exertion can cause changes in the connective tissue. Damage to the body is naturally repaired by the formation of new connective tissue. But with sustained stress, such as stress and muscle tension, too much new connective tissue is produced. It becomes tight and inelastic, which impairs blood circulation and mobility. Muscle tension and muscle imbalances, mental or physical pain and circulatory disorders are other examples of conditions that create changes in the connective tissue.

Q: What is connective tissue/fascia?

The connective tissue (also called fascia) is found in virtually all organs of the body, around blood vessels, cartilage, tendons and also acts as a cover for the muscles. Q: I am pregnant/breastfeeding, can I use the cups?

Facial cupping is okay, but we recommend being cautious with cupping massage for the body during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. This is because cupping stimulates blood circulation very intensely and triggers the body's elimination of waste products, which are excreted, in part, through breast milk, potentially harming the baby. Q: I got marks after cupping, is this normal?

Yes, it is completely normal. Some people get marks, some dont; some more, others less – it partly depends on your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, we recommend first massaging and warming the skin with your hands and creating less vacuum with the cup at the beginning. After a few days, when your skin has started to get used to the cupping massage, you can gradually increase the vacuum. The cups can lead to marks that resemble bruises but should not be confused with them. It is completely harmless and only affects the outermost layers of the skin. According to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), it is usually the case that if you have good circulation in the area, no marks will appear, and where circulation is stagnant, bluish marks may occur. These marks usually fade and disappear after a few days. The marks that appear can be the result of toxins coming to the surface, stagnation, previous injury, or lactic acid produced by the muscles. If redness or itching occurs, it is likely due to the increased blood circulation. For those with sensitive skin, it is also common to get marks.

Q: What side effects can cupping have?

One of the most appealing benefits of using alternative methods such as cupping is that there are no proven negative side effects, unlike pharmaceutical drugs. The therapeutic benefits of cupping could be the placebo effect, but even if the relief you feel comes from the expectations of relief, it is probably a better alternative. In case of knee injuries be a little extra gentle and please consult your doctor first or contact us for more questions. After a knee-operation it can be very beneficial to stimulate the circulation with cupping around the knee and for scars. But don’t cup on the scar the first 6-8 weeks until the scar has begun to heal and start with the face cup for a more gentle treat.
